IOC Travel Request

International Oversight Committee (IOC) travel requests are required for study abroad programs to destinations determined to be High Risk.

High Risk areas are identified as the following:
  • The U.S. State Department Travel Advisories:
    • Level 4:   Do not travel
    • Level 3:   Reconsider travel (note:  this includes advisory levels for sub-regions within a country, e.g., states in Mexico)
  • The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Travel Advisory:
    • COVID-19 Warning Level 4: Special Circumstances/Do Not Travel
    • Travel Health Notice Level 3: Avoid Non-Essential Travel
  • The IOC has deemed significant health, safety, or security risks are present.

IOC travel requests will be reviewed approximately 90 days prior to the program start date.

This IOC review timeline and travel approval decisions are subject to change.  Programs approved to travel may still be subject to suspension before the scheduled departure, or participants may be recalled while abroad.

Students applying for reciprocal exchange and affiliated study abroad programs will submit individual travel requests using the “Students” travel request form: Student Travel Request Form
Note – for faculty-led programs, the faculty program leader will submit a group travel request on behalf of the program.  Students will not submit individual requests.

UTA Study Abroad prepared the following video as an overview of the IOC process and to provide clarification of the IOC travel request form for intended study abroad students.  Note - this video was made when all international locations were considered High Risk and makes reference to all study abroad students being required to complete this process.  As of May 18, 2022, only students planning to study abroad in destinations still determined to be High Risk by the criteria noted above are still required to complete the IOC travel request process.
